Between ideal weathers, incredibly fun festivals, and once a year spectacles, here are the best places you can travel this spring.
1. Rio De Janeiro
Rio is a beautiful city in Brazil, between the tropical rainforests, the mountain ranges, and the famous beaches (Copacabana, anyone?), you get some pretty unique landscapes out of this city. The city is completely filled with culture, and March brings great weather that is not too humid. However, the main reason why March is a great month to go is the Carnival, and Rio makes one of the best scenes for you to see it. Dating all the way back to 1723, the carnival happens before Lent, a whole week where everyone goes over the top with music, dancing, feasting, and a lot of very fun activities. Rio will be thriving with energy and color for a whole week, parties and samba dancers account for a very fun trip to the Brazilian city. And if you get tired of the buss of the streets you can always head to Copacabana and relax while you enjoy the sea.
2. Melbourne
Australia is hot, like really hot over the summer. However, March is the perfect time in which the heat is there, but it isn’t melting you. However, another thing that happens in the capital of Australia during this month is the largest free community festival in the country. This festival usually takes place on the Labor-day weekend and is an event attended by millions. The festival is filled with traditional competitions you can participate in, lots of laughs, and very colorful streets. For more fun, you can stay while March ends to stick around for the comedy festival that is held in the same city. Melbourne is an amazing city full of a million things to do, you can enter The Edge, where you’ll be inside a glass cube that goes up to 88 floors to let you get the most spectacular and unique views of the city. You can also take the Melbourne Star, which is a giant Ferris wheel from where you can see the port, the city, and the surroundings. There are zoo’s, rainforests. Bushlands, and underwater marvels for you to see the wonderful wildlife of Australia.
3. Dublin
Dublin is always fun, the pints, the streets, the pubs, and the friendly Irish people. However, if there is one way to make it a lot better is visiting it in March. Why? Three words: St. Patrick’s Day. This is a global holiday that is hugely celebrated in a lot of places in the world, now imagine seeing and experiencing it in the very place where it was born. The patron saint of Ireland will ensure five days of very funs festivities when the streets fill with people celebrating, drinking, and dancing to Irish music. St. Patrick is known for bringing Christianity into Ireland, which is part of the reason why celebrations honoring him are thrown all over the country (and the world). In Dublin, you can go to Guinness Storehouse which is a popular destination during this holiday, you can learn how to put a proper, Irish pint in here. Other places you can visit to get to know Dublin and get the essence of the festival still are the Temple Bar area, Phoenix Park, Dublin Zoo, and Aston Castle, these are some of the musts of the city. However, if you are already going to Ireland, make sure to visit the astounding landscapes that are also outside the city, like stunning Cliffs of Moher, Killarney National Park, and the Ring of Kerry.
4. Houston
While probably not expecting to see this location on the list, there is a very good reason why you should visit in March, and it isn’t only the weather. Houston is a city in southern Texas, near the Gulf of Mexico. In March, Houston hosts Mardi Gras Houston, on a smaller scale than New Orleans, but still pretty impressive. Around the same time, you can see the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, an event where you can experience a variety of competitions, concerts, judging of livestock, and many other events that will let you get soaked in the Texan culture. The city also holds one of the biggest St. Patrick’s Day celebrations. While in Houston, also make sure you visit the science and space center of NASA, which is a very popular destination for tourists from all over the world. The downtown museum is also a must for art-lovers. Furthermore, Houston has recently become a gastronomical center of the US, so get a lot of amazing restaurants and bars.
5. Valencia
In Eastern Spain, the coastal city is one of the largest cities in Spain. Valencia is where the famous dish Paella, the delicious mix of rice, seafood, meat, and other vegetables. Valencia offers quite amazing shopping opportunities and very fun nightlife. The city’s old town will let you go to beautiful, delicious cafes, tapa bars, nightclubs, boutiques, and museums. The reason why March is great in this city is that the city hosts the festival of Las Fallas, where they celebrate St. Joseph. In the festival, you can see the figurines made out of different materials that are traditional from this festivity.
